Home of Love is a part of an NGO,
(non-government organization) called Aid for Poverty Alleviation
in Bangladesh (APAB).
This NGO is lead by Mr. Ick Mo Jung. Mr. Jung and his wife are from
Korea; they have 2 children
and have served here for 14 years. They began all of the projects
and are heroes of faith for
many.
The NGO has projects like primary schools for the poor, a tribal boy’s
hostel, factory sewing training, and 2 clinics. Presently, just across the pond
from the orphanage a new primary school is being built for the village we live
in. APAB employs about 50 people as the work is quite large and growing constantly.
Several foreigners work in the NGO and at the moment there are about 8 Koreans
+ the Kühn family working with Mr. Jung.
BOYS HOSTEL
The ministry fulfills the dreams of many tribal teenagers who are
unable to continue their education in the villages where they come
from. The boys
hostel is set up to provide an opportunity to study from class 6
up to college, which would not be financially or physically possible
otherwise. The boys come from the tribal areas of Bangladesh. There
are 25 boys
in the hostel.
HOPE SEWING TRAINING SCHOOL
The sewing school allows women of all religions and ages to learn
professional sewing in order to get a factory job. Chittagong has
a huge
export processing zone where foreign clothes are sewn and thousands
of women earn their livelihood by stitching. The training school
provides them with the expertise to get a good starting salary at
the factories and/or enables them to tailor for their families and
neighbors. Over 400 women have received training up to this point.
PRIMARY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
For many underprivileged children in Bangladesh, school is expensive
and
often unrealistic, especially for girls. APAB provides for teachers
salaries, buildings, books, etc. so that 400 elementary school children
can go to school for free. The schools go from grades 1-5.
