Home of Love is a part of an NGO, (non-government organization) called Alacrity for Poverty Alleviation in Bangladesh (APAB). This NGO is led by Mr. Ick Mo Jung. He and his wife are from South Korea; they
have 2 children and have served here for 16 years. They began all of the projects and are heroes of faith for many. The NGO runs the following projects: primary schools for the poor, a tribal boy’s hostel, factory sewing training for women, and 2 primary medical clinics. Across the pond from the orphanage is Bora Primary School and Sunrising Junior High School; these are also APAB projects. APAB employs about 70 people as the work is quite large and growing. The Jungs are assisted by several foreigners who work in the NGO, including presently 8 Koreans + the Kühn family.
BOYS HOSTEL
The ministry fulfills the dreams of many tribal boys who are unable to continue their education in the villages where they come from because there are only schools up to the 5th grade in those areas. The boys’ hostel is set up to provide an opportunity to study higher education from class 6 up to university, which would not be financially or physically possible otherwise. The boys come from 5 different tribes of Bangladesh. There are about 35 boys in the hostel.
HOPE SEWING TRAINING SCHOOL
The sewing school allows women of all religions and ages to learn professional sewing in order to get a factory job. Chittagong has a huge export processing zone where foreign clothes are sewn and thousands of women earn their livelihood by stitching. The training school, established in 1997, provides them with the
expertise to get a good starting salary at the factories and/or enables them to do tailoring for their families and neighbors. Over 900 women have received training up to this point.
PRIMARY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
For many underprivileged children in Bangladesh, school is expensive and often unrealistic, especially for girls. APAB provides for teacher salaries, buildings, books, etc. so that 560 elementary school children can go to school for free. There are 4 schools with 20 teachers. The schools are from grades K-5.
BORA PRIMARY AND SUNRISING JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
These schools provide education for the surrounding village children, Home of Love and the boys’ hostel children. They have good educated staff, high standards and nice facilities. They have introduced physical education, music, art, and computers into the monotonous routine of normal Bengali school system.
FAITH PRIMARY CLINIC
The NGO runs two village clinics. There is a local doctor, nurse and Korean nurse who work in the clinics. They see about 20 patients a day. As an organization, we would like to build a hospital. The plans are all drawn up and the site is ready.
