Bristi, although still a toddler herself, likes to pretend she's a mother. posted by Thomas at 3:13 PM Tropical Corn fields

We wondered how our corn would do and it surprised us by growing to about 8ft. in less than eight weeks. It grew out of its roots and then put down new roots. The soil here is so fertile! We found out when we harvested that there is a real difference between field and sweet corn and unfortunately we had the field type. It wasn't too tasty but the kids still nibbled on it. posted by Thomas at 6:07 PM Ouch!

Joanna fell off the swing and broke her hand. It was quite a bad break and had to be set. The Dr. wanted to knock her out completely in order to set it, to the tune of 7000 taka (100$). Our Korean nurse objected and requested just for the arm to be numbed. It ended up then costing only 3000 taka! That is how the poor are normally always treated and they have no idea that a lot of their medical expenses are unnecessary. It is sad. posted by Thomas at 12:37 PM A good game of Boi-chee
Sunday, July 16, 2006
This fun wild activity is one of the kid's favorite outside games. Two teams are made and the one team tries to run down the path and try and steal the other team's bride. The team member can only run as long as he/she can keep chanting ta-ta-ta-ta-ta (runs out of breath) and then must return to home base. On this particular afternoon when Thomas took this picture, it was T.V. time but there was no electricity that whole day so they played Boi-chee instead. posted by Colleen at 7:01 AM Reading in the Rainy Season

During the heavy monsoon rains, the kids enjoy being able to do something fun in the library. They look at books, play board games and read to the younger ones. We are so thankful for this facility and also to all of you who have sent us books. Yesterday we pulled out all the books and cleaned a job that needs to be done about once a month in this climate. We have treated the shelves for termites and hope that the bugs will relocate to a far away place. posted by Thomas at 12:09 PM Rat-a-ta-ta

Peter is learning to play the drums. He is getting good and can accompany simple songs. We love the opportunity that God gives our children. In the picture Luke is watching and waiting for his turn, he is a very good bongo drum player. We are thankful for Mr. Jang from Korea, who is willing to teach guitar and drums to our kids. posted by Thomas at 9:06 AM On the road to the Doctor

The nearest reliable hospital is more than 2 hours drive from the Home of Love. It's a long trip over bumpy crowded roads. In the picture you see our colleague Mee Yeon holding John, our special needs boy and three other older boys. The older kids are going for tuberculosis check ups and John needs to get another pair of splints for his club feet. Thank God that the boys' check ups were clear and they received a clean bill of health. No more TB medicine for them. John will have to continue to visit the hospital every few months for treatment. posted by Thomas at 10:32 AM World Cup Fever in Bangladesh

Although Bangladesh didn't make it to the World Cup themselves that did nothing to deter the passion of football (soccer) in this country. Weeks before the World Cup began one could see flags flying from buildings for the favored teams. The majority was Argentina and Brazilian flags. The newspaper dedicated 4 pages each day for football news and everyone was talking about it. We heard of villagers pooling money to buy a TV in order to watch the games. The orphanage was also aglow in World Cup fever and we flew the French, German, Argentinean and Korean flag. It is over now, Italy won. posted by Colleen at 7:12 AM Another big harvest of fish
We were able to fill the freezer again with fresh fish after the fishermen came and harvested our ponds. The kids were busy for hours afterward cleaning the fish. In order to slow the fish down while they drag the nests through the pond, they put a bit of gasoline in the water. That makes catching fish a bit easier and they don't jump as quick or high! Bob is guarding the fish so that the birds don't steal it. posted by Colleen at 7:18 AM
