The kids’ ages vary between baby and young adult. They attend different schools. On the property there is a preschool, elementary and junior high school. All of the older ones go into the city for high school, college and university. A van takes them in every morning. There are kids going in many directions on a typical morning. The colleges do not start class until 10 or even 11 a.m., so those kids sometimes leave at different times and use the time in the morning to study. The staff get the elementary students ready, making sure they have had their vitamins, brushed their teeth, have their backpack, have their uniform on correctly and two shoes of the same variation. Once all have had a going over, they are sent off to school only a 2 minute walk or a 1 minute run away.

We have a workshop upstairs for carpentry training. Soon, there will also be a welding corner with a welder and supplies. Other facilities include a basketball court, playground, library, study/class room, multi-purpose room, computer lab, preschool room and guest rooms. In the recent past we have added a guest house and are in the process of building 8 new bedrooms and 2 sick rooms. God has blessed us with a big diesel generator which supplies us with power to supplement the lack of supply from the normal electric lines. We did finally get a telephone after waiting about 5 years, but by then the cell phone age had taken Bangladesh by storm and we no longer need a landline. Water is supplied by two tube wells that both turned out to be iron laced, making our water look like light tea. We have been able to produce part of the fish we eat weekly and about half of the rice needed for our growing children. If God gives us favor, we will one day be able to increase the productivity. The land is planted and harvested by a hired farmer. We have decided against livestock for the time being as the children first need to grow in stewardship of what they already have been given.

The daily schedule of the Home of Love includes devotions for all, work duties (cleaning, cooking, gardening, going to the market, and helping with the toddlers), school and study time, sports and rest times. The college kids help the younger ones in the evenings with their homework. The junior high and high school kids have a math and English tutor that coaches them every evening from 8-10 p.m. in the study room. The girls have a dance teacher that teaches them traditional Bengali dance on Friday afternoons. As you can see, the kids at the Home of Love have a life full of opportunities.
