The
kid’s
ages vary between toddler and young adult. They attend a school in
the orphanage until 6th grade and then attend a school
in the city. The kids
normally stay until they finish the 10th grade and pass their exams. They have
2 chances (which equal 2 years) to try and pass these mandatory exams that
allow them to continue studying in 11th and 12th grade. If they don’t
pass, they are released from our guardianship and helped to transition back
into their village or to learn a trade of some kind. We always encourage the
older ones to do some further training if financially possible.
A
colleague of ours from Korea has an excellent Tae Kwon Do program
which teaches the kids about exercise,
ambition and honor.
In January 2004, the orphanage moved to a new property out of
the city. We are in the process of pioneering that land, i.e. getting
reliable
electricity, phone lines, and clean water presently. We need God's
help! Vision abounds for this property and we believe that all
God has planned for it will come into existence in His timing. There
are dreams of building a nice playground, basketball court, carpentry
shop and developing the land in terms of agriculture and farm animals.
The daily schedule of Home of Love includes devotions
as a group, work duties (cleaning, cooking, washing clothes and helping
with the toddlers), school
+ evening study time, sports, and rest time. Older ones help the younger
ones in the evenings with homework and see to it that they are dressed and
bathed.
